My Pregnancy Journal: Week 28

I am officially in the THIRD trimester! That’s just crazy talk! Baby girl is growing like crazy and like I said last update (at week 26), I’ve finally started gaining weight.. I think I’m up 7 pounds now, which is pretty darn good and I finally have the doc off my back about gaining more weight! :)

Yes, we have picked a name!! Hooray! But unfortunately for ya’ll, I’ve decided not to announce on my blog until she gets here.. Only a few close family members know so we’re not really sharing lots anyway.. Sorry but you’ll have to wait a few more weeks!

So at my last doc appt, which was last week on the 22nd, I had another ultrasound to see how things are going in there.. I am actually measuring several weeks early due to a medium-sized fibroid that I have in the wall of my uterus. I’ve been pretty nervous about what having this fibroid will mean for me, baby girl, labor and delivery but was so thankful to hear from the doctor that since it’s in the back and not near the birth canal, it should not affect anything! Well, except for the fact that I am several weeks bigger than I should be.. Apparently, the only thing that is affected in a negative way is my comfortability. I feel bigger (which I am) which has been causing back pains and other not-so-fun symptoms. But all that is doable for me, now that I know she is safe in there and I can still try for the birth I want!

Thanks God!

So no other updates, other than that.. Still exhausted but since I’ve been taking my new iron prescription, it seems to be a tad better.

Here’s what’s going on with me and baby girl this week from The Bump:

Welcome to the third trimester! Moms-to-be who are at 28 weeks and beyond are known for their lack of sleep. Remember if you find yourself up in the middle of the night, do something relaxing. This is not the time to vacuum the house from top to bottom — even though you might feel the urge to do that at some point. Read a book, drink chamomile tea, listen to soothing music. Then try to get back to bed and get some rest! Being in the third trimester also means much of your and baby’s anatomy are ready to go — she’s prepping for breathing, and your breasts already have colostrum, which is what baby will eat the first few days until your milk comes in. You’ll also start feeling more Braxton Hicks contractions as your body gets ready for labor. Baby will keep getting bigger — and smarter — after week 28, and other than that, she just needs a few more finishing touches.
Your baby’s the size of a rutabaga!
Putting on layers of fat, your baby now weighs in around 1.5 to 2.5 pounds and measures about 13.6 to 14.8 inches.
Your baby at 28 weeks
  • She’s starting to develop more fat, so her wrinkly skin will start to get smoother.
  • Her lungs are mature enough that she’d probably survive if she was born now. Wow!
