10 Cheap and FREE Summer Activities for Kids

Here are some fun pictures of my boys from last summer, along with 10 Cheap and FREE activities we did together!

1. Go to the playground.

Simple, yes, but my boys absolutely love to go to all of the different parks in the area! Last summer, I tried to go to a different park around the city each week. This was super fun and we got to try out all the parks!

2. Splash around at the splash pad.

Around here, some of the parks in the area also have a Splash Pad! This is a wonderful option for when you just need a break from the heat but are not wanting to venture all the way to the beach.

3. Get sandy at the beach.

I just love taking my boys to the beach, however, it is a lot of work to take two toddlers to the beach! I think this year, it will be easier though, having the boys a bit older.. You absolutely must remember wipes, a gallon of water (to rinse off sand before getting into the car) and lots and lots of sunscreen and snacks!

4. Take a long walk.

When we need to get out of the house, we just open the front door and start walking. It’s fun to have no plan and just see where the wind takes us. It’s also fun to create a simple scavenger hunt for the kids to search for on your walk!

5. Camp and explore.

Camping with the family is one of the most exciting times growing up! Leave all (or most) electronics at home and brave the outdoors together. The time spent with my family, with my parents when I was a kid and with my own family now, are memories I will always cherish!

6. Make s’mores.

Need I say more?! You can’t go wrong with a crackling fire, pokey sticks and some s’mores goodies!

7. Go fishing.

Last year was the first year that Cohen got to go fishing with Daddy. This is a very inexpensive activity to do with your kids of all ages and I promise it will be a wonderful bonding time with them! Of course, Cohen’s favorite part was touching the wiggly worms!

8. Take a trip to the fair.

Every August, the North Idaho Fair comes to town and I look forward to it each year! Now with the boys, I enjoy it more because we get to venture through all the different buildings, pet all the animals, ride kiddie rides, eat yummy food and experience all the fair has to offer. We usually only go one day, because of the price, but that one day is totally worth it!

9. Pick some fresh fruit.

Last year was also the first time I took the boys to a local U-Pick farm. We had so much fun that we will definitely be going more often this year, when season starts (mid-late June)! The farm we go to is incredibly cheap and has lots of different crops to choose from! I definitely recommend looking in your area for a farm like this.

10. Just relax…. and enjoy the ice cream.

Lots of activities can be fun for kids and parents but if you schedule too many, it can get to be too much. Make sure you remember to relax every once in a while and take the time to enjoy what’s going on around you!

Have a wonderful summer!!
