4 Great Reasons to Choose Wool for Your Newborn

We’re gearing up for a new baby around here – and I’m getting the wool ready! There’s some great reasons wool is perfect for diapering newborns:

Natural fibers – just born, you won’t know right away if your baby is allergic or sensitive to materials in disposables, or even PUL diapers. So start with natural fibers to keep rashes and other irritations away from your baby’s delicate new skin.

Generous sizing – most knit wool longies and shorties are very forgiving and stretchy when it comes to fit. So instead of fretting over whether those newborn covers will even fit if your baby comes out much bigger than expected, go with some wool and you’ll be sure to get a good fit!

Saves laundry time – since you don’t have to launder your wool diapers EVERY time you use them, you will only have to launder the flats, prefolds, and fitteds you use underneath. And we know newborns have to be changed constantly, so using a wool cover pretty much guarantees you’ll always have a cover handy – versus a PUL cover/pocket diaper that would need to be washed either every few times or every time you  use it!

Baby comfort (and your own!) – the unique wicking and breathable properties of wool will bring your newborn the best in dry comfort as he or she starts a new life with you! When used and lanolized properly, wool contains wet and leaks so well, you should never have to worry about a damp lap, or a baby waking up in the middle of the night crying and soaked through their pajamas.

Four great reasons to stock up on some wool covers for your newborn!

This is great! We have our first little one due this fall and have heard that Prefolds can sometimes work better than other pockets/one size etc etc diapers. I wasn’t sure what sort of cover to put over, but this post is definitely making me like wool!

  3. thank you so much such a awesome post I love the cloth and wool diapers my kids never grow used to the disposable diapers and cloth/wool diapers were lifesavers

  4. Great info, thanks for the post!

  5. I have never used wool before. How often does it get poop on it when you use it with a newborn though? I guess you would most likely only use it over fitteds, not prefolds and flats?

i haven’t used wool yet…i was so convinced that it would be difficult to use so i haven’t bothered looking into it…just learning that it doesn’t need to be washed every single time its used has me sooooo intrigued!

  7. I have never thought about wool for a newborn. I only have one wool cover and still trying to get the hang of it :) I am definitely going to explore more especially since this post makes it seem so easy
