I had heard of medela many, many times before getting pregnant this time with baby girl but it was not until the whole experience of having her in the NICU that I actually got to use their products hands-on. Having my daughter taken to another hospital even before I was stitched back up did not, of course, give us any time to bond or nurse. Not having those first moment with her was incredibly hard. But what helped a little was the fact that I could pump while in the hospital to help my milk to come in for when she needed it.. Thankfully, our hospital had medela Symphony pumps for the mothers that needed them.
With the help from the medela pump at the hospital, the pump at the NICU as well as the pump I rented (all the same pumps!), my milk came in! And just this afternoon, I was able to nurse my little girl. I am so thankful to medela for helping me when I needed it and for creating such quality pumps that actually simulated a real baby and stimulated my milk to come in..! Thanks, medela!

And now medela has another wonderful product that I cannot wait to try with my baby girl when I get her home..
Introducing Calma: Designed exclusively for breastmilk feeding.
Switching from bottle back to breast has never been easier. Calma was developed using evidence-based research on babies’ natural feeding behavior so you can enjoy your breastfeeding bond longer.
With Calma, the milk will only flow if your baby works and creates vacuum to remove the milk. This enables the feeding behavior learned at the breast to be used with Calma.
Calma is supposed to work just like the breast in the way milk comes to the baby. Also, it has a very unique venting system that reduces the amount of air that baby gets into her belly.
Tha Calma bottle is definitely the most unique I have seen and I look forward to seeing it in action very soon!
Now one of you lucky readers can WIN a medela Calma bottle of your own!!

I had no idea that Medela made devices for medical use other than breast pumps.
I love that the calma makes babies “work” for the milk, so it mimics breastfeeding!
I learned that they have a supplemental system.
I learned they were founded in 1961
I learned they have a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant who will assist you with your breastfeeding questions and concerns.
I learned that you can buy nursing bras from medela!
I really loved their quiz to help select a pump! I’ve been very overwhelmed trying to figure out what would best meet my needs and plans and that was very helpful for me to figure out what to do!
I learned that Medela was founded in Switzerland.
I love all of the great resources they offer!
They now make their contact nipple shields in more sizes (I like the contact ones better than the regular ones… and Medela ones are WAY better than other brands I’ve worked with)l.
I learned your baby has to work & create a vacuum in order for the milk to flow. It also has a unique venting system to keep air out of your baby’s stomach.
I love the amount of information they provide for breastfeeding moms. Due to numerous reasons, I was unable to breastfeed my first child. I’m expecting #2, and fully plan to attempt breastfeeding again in the hopes that things go successfully this time. I also learned that it is ok to rent pumps (I always thought that was discouraged, since I’ve always heard you shouldn’t use a pump a different mother had used).
I learned that they have Board-Certified Lactation Consultant to help if you have questions.
Milk will only flow if your baby works
The milk only comes out if the baby works on sucking on it.
